More than 1 million unemployment claims filed in D.C., Md. and Va. in six weeks

More than 3.8 million Americans filed initial unemployment claims for the week ending April 25, bringing the six-week total to more than 30 million as the Covid-19 pandemic has hit the country’s workforce extremely hard.

Continuing claims are at nearly 18 million — an all-time high, according to Department of Labor figures released Thursday.

D.C., Maryland and Virginia saw employment claims drop compared with the previous week, but a total of more than 118,000 residents in the three jurisdictions…
