Editor’s Briefing: Will the coronavirus kill off retailing as we know it?

It was a bit unreal writing about a group of area retail centers whose loans were placed on a watch list this month.

The centers — Barrywoods, Truman’s Marketplace and Belton Marketplace — had a number of similarities. They were in high-traffic, suburban-type areas. All are well-kept, either built or completely redeveloped pretty recently. And they all had high occupancy rates, including slates of the kinds of tenants developers fight for.
