Cooper: ‘Enormous’ 32% tax hike needed to endure Covid-19 crisis

Nashville Mayor John Cooper called for a 32% property tax hike on Tuesday, an essential part of his plan to account for $472 million of revenue losses caused by the Covid-19 crisis.

Cooper’s budget proposal put hard numbers on the “substantial” tax increase he foreshadowed last month. His April 28 address was replete with grim adjectives and descriptors: “chilling … brutal … unthinkable … shock … disaster … no calvary coming to the rescue.”
